Black and Pink Grannys

Wow it's been a long time since I last posted! I haven't done much crochet or knitting this week. Just mostly reading. I did play around with the squares that DD wants me to make her an afghan out of. I was thinking of doing a plain black in between each daisy square, with one row of pink around the outside to join to the other squares. What do you think? Or would it look better to just do all daisys?

Prize winnings!

The prize I won from Bron's drawing arrived by mail today! Wa hoo! Boy, does she have me figured out or what? :) This was exactly what I was hoping to win!

I am very much into making potholders and dishcloths, so this will be used up soon! Thanks again, Bron!

Good News

The last two weeks have been very exciting for my DH. He has been looking for a better job for about a year and a half, with not much results. All at once, he has had three good job offers! He accepted an offer and one offer is "standing" if he decides he doesn't like this one. They gave him a really good starting salary, are giving him a company car, paying the gas, and it is a LOT closer to our house! I am so happy for him! We are hoping to eventually put some of the extra money toward fencing the property and making a few needed home repairs around the place. The house was built by my SIL's father back in 1969, so it needs some updating, etc. We have always felt so incredibly lucky that our SIL wanted to sell it to us!

We have had a long lazy weekend so far, and plan to go see the movie "Stardust" tonight.

I haven't crocheted much this weekend, but I bought this new leaflet for making potholders, and I am thinking of starting a "fat bottom bag" out of the book "The Happy Hooker" by Debbie Stoller.

Daisy Squares

As you all have probably figured out by now, I can't see cool things being created without wanting to join in the fun, too. After a visit to Ronnie's blog here, and seeing her newest color combo for the Daisy Square, I decided to take it one step farther, and added the pink border. DD saw them and now wants an entire blanket! So I guess there will be another UFO in the works.
*smile*.

Treasure

Your Pirate Name Is...

Lieutenant-Colonel One Eye

We went out of town this weekend to visit my ds, dd, and dgs. (Hence the reason for finding my Pirate name above). :)

DH and I went thrifting before we left town, and found this jewel:

Then, before we came back home yesterday, we went to a water park with our kids & grandson for the *very hot* afternoon, where we ran into some former co-workers, who caught me up on the "office gossip" from my former workplace. Very juicy, of course! :) All in all, a pretty good weekend!

I won, I won!

I was surfing blogs the other day, and looked in on Bron. She was having a 4th blogiversary give away to those who left her messages that day. She had so many entries, that she ended up drawing 6 names as winners, instead of one. She had a real drawing, with a bona-fide "impartial name-drawer", and I was one of the 6 LUCKY WINNERS! I'm so excited, I've never won anything before! I can't wait to see which wonderful item I won! THANKS, Bron!!!

Last night, I was shopping at the JoAnn Fabric Superstore, and ran across these new colors of Sugar n Cream Stripes cotton yarn that I hadn't seen before. One is called "pinky stripes" and the other "natural stripes". I think I need to apply to Lily for a job to be the "Namer of New yarns". Don't you think something like "Pink Flamingo" and "Desert Sunset" would grab your attention a little better if you didn't happen to have a photo? Just sayin'! :)

Playtime Chicken...

Yes, I know I am supposed to be finishing UFO's, but this colorway needed to be made into a chicken! What's a girl to do with a chicken clucking at her (in her head)?

Meet Playtime Chicken. She is made from the colorway "Playtime", with her wattle, comb and feathers out of "hot green", both by Sugar n Cream, and her pattern is from The Ultimate Book of Potholders. So far, she is my favorite color to date.

Finish-itis

I had a case of "start-itis" last month, now I am getting a case of "finish-itis" this month. I started this baby blanket about (yes I'm ashamed to say it) 7 years ago, and you see how far I got with it. Obviously, the recipient got something else as a gift! The pattern was from a Leisure Arts magazine called "Crochet with Heart" that ended up being discontinued. I think I still have almost every issue they made! (Yes, I have just a small case of "pack-rat-ism" too). I even think I still have some of the yarn somewhere! I am really wanting to try to finish up some of my UFO projects this month!
I only have to do about 5 more rows to finish this other baby blanket that I started last year:

It is a pattern from a leaflet by Terry Kimbrough called: Heirloom Afghans for Baby, shown
on the cover of the book and named "Exquisite".

One thing I HAVE managed to start AND finish recently: Another fish for the kitchen potholder animal farm, using the "cool breeze ombre" colorway by Sugar n Cream. I will probably be giving *some* of these away for gifts. Although the "selfish" part of me wants to keep them ALL! ........................................ Mwahahahahaha!

Finished Objects

I found these dishcloths (free pattern here) that I had knitted up last winter, all they needed to be finished was to have the seam sewn up! So, I finished them. Then, I found this little pig potholder (pattern in this book) that I started in the Spring. I decided to finish him up, too, so he can join the rest of my growing animal potholder farm.
