Toys in the attic...

Look what we found up in Mema's attic last time we were visiting! An old trunk from *at least* the early 1900's that belonged to DH's grandmother. Inside, ** much to my surprise**, there are some yarny goodies tucked away by Mema (DH's mother).

Now, Mema is the person who taught me to crochet when I was 15, but I don't remember seeing this ripple afghan in all that time...... and she gave it all to me, me, me! :) (Happy dance!) You can see how excited Asia is, too! There was also some fabric ("vintage", I'm sure) see below.

Woo hoo! This is like finding Pirate treasure! I'm not sure anyone else in my family would understand that, but I know my grandson, X, would!

Rain, rain, go away.........

I can't believe it! My BIL had to go in for ANOTHER surgery tonight at 10:00p.m. The Neurosurgeon is a young guy that only has about 20 surgeries under his belt. (including the THREE on BIL!!) He still didn't sound very sure as to whether THIS surgery will "take", either! Lets hope it works this time!

Crochet related: I was able to crochet one more "Easy Daisy Square" while we were in the waiting room.

In weather related news: we have had so much rain these last couple of days, you wouldn't believe! Take a look! The area that you see up under the trees is normally dry ground and is usually several feet above water. This aerial view is from our back deck.

Below is a better close up, showing that the dock is almost underwater now. It is usually 2 - 3 feet above the water.

Man, oh man! They are forcasting even more rain through Monday! I imagine the water will be up over the dock by the time its all over with.

Boat rides and grannys....

I always feel safe with Asia at the Wheel! She has driven since she was just a young pup. *smile* Here is a shot of her taking us for a ride on Sunday evening.

Here she stops for a photo shoot. Zoolander style. *The look*

I started some new grannys, thanks to Inkberryblue. *sigh* I need to stop reading all these blogs till I can catch up to everything I want to do. *It'll never happen*. Not fond of these two colors together, but I was just experimenting. Oh, you want the pattern? It can be found here. Isn't it cute?? Have a good Tuesday!

Memories....

Found this pile of "vintage"(heh, heh) magazines that I had saved all these years, most are from from the early 1980's. My MIL taught me to crochet when I was 15 (in 1974) and first started dating DH in high school. (Yes, its true! Can you believe I have actually been stuck with known him for 32 years!? Most of my life!) I would just learn whatever stitch she taught me, and then make whatever afghan she was working on at the time. I don't remember teaching myself to read crochet patterns until I was an old married gal of 2o or 21 or thereabouts. So I don't think I probably have many magazines any older than the early 80's in my crochet pattern stash. It is fun looking back through and seeing patterns that are becoming popular again, like the granny and ripple afghans.
Yes, my photo is awful with the glare, but I thought maybe you could still see the afghan, anyway.

I have been working on a granny ripple lately. Here is an updated pic of SOMEBODY who likes my afghan!

New magazines!

Here is what I got in the mail the other day! New ideas to drool over! I have decided that I have plenty going on for the moment, so I won't be starting anything till I can crank out a couple of FO.

We're going to the hospital today, my BIL's surgery was put off till this morning, so I will leave you with a Saturday photo of the lake (and of COURSE, Asia).

Been reading...

The City of Fort Worth had to close down the library, cause I have all the books checked out! Hee hee! (just kidding) They only had to close one branch......

Here's what I have been crocheting this week. It is a frog hat pattern from Crochetroo. It's really cute. X is gonna love this!
On a more sober note, my BIL found out that his spinal fluid has been leaking (he had a tumor removed from around his Pituitary gland a couple of weeks ago), and they are going to have to do a SECOND surgery to fix the leak tomorrow morning. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again....the hospitals in this area really scare me! I am from a smaller city, (Lubbock, Texas) but I'll take their hospitals, doctors, and medical know- how any old day!

Father's Day

Father's day, 2006, my husband found someone who would take my FIL up in a Steerman Airplane one last time. FIL was an instructor pilot in WWII, and flew these planes alot. He is an amazing 92 years old and still going strong.

We took him out for lunch today and enjoyed getting to see him and MIL.
To my FIL, DS and DH:

Happy Father's Day!

It's the one and only, the fabulous...................

I'm so excited! Its like a rock star goddess of knitting/crochet left me a comment on my blog! Yes, it was BRON! I have "lurked" (like a total groupie) on her blog for a while cause she is just so funny and so prolific with her knitting and crocheting and blogging! Her blog is always an interesting read, and she almost always blogs daily. She also lives in New Mexico (one state over from Texas heading West, for those who might be a little geographically challenged) and so it feels fairly *close* by.

I had a bad *week from HELL* all last week at work, but that really cheered me up! Thanks, Bron!

I ordered a red eyed frog and hat pattern from Crochetroo's Etsy store the other day. I got to start crocheting on the frog today. X is gonna love it!

I also have a photo of a bookmark I made from a free pattern on her blog. She really has some cute ideas!

Buttonhole Bag

I came across this photo from last year. It is a picture of the buttonhole bag I made from a pattern off of the Maxon-Dixon Knitting blog. It is felted and was a lot of fun to make. I have a thing for crocheted or knitted purses. I have several other purses in the works, but they are all UFO's right now.
Happy Friday!

Potholders, Ripples and Children

Back when Bron got on her potholder kick, I had to follow her lead and make some too. My tastes are similar to hers, I guess that is why I enjoy reading her blog so much.

A little more added to the ripple I am making into a pillow cover......

And to go with today's video in the side bar: some photos of "sweet child(s) o' mine".

my DD - Auntie Grim

My DS - C (Bubba) bet you can't figure out WHERE that nickname came from!, and my DGS - X (Spidaman).

Music

I have been working on adding some music to my blog. VERY frustrating when you aren't a computer guru (and I'm certainly not). So I finally have some music, but I'm not smart enough to know if you can just set it up like a CD or something with one song going into another one. I like a lot of different kinds of music so that is how I would like to set it up. But mostly with Rock. Or "Classic Rock", now. Whatever.....

I'm not really in the mood to do anything, and am feeling kind of sad. My BIL is doing a little worse. They found out today that he now has spinal meningitis, apparently caused when he had the brain surgery. He is in very low spirits. Still in ICU, still has the spinal tap in his back. Today is day 5 for him to be there. Please keep him in your prayers.

Dishrags and Soap

Here are a couple of dishrags I knitted recently, along with some homemade Vanilla Lace Pearberry Soap. It smells so wonderful! We make a batch of soap occasionally two or three times a year, with different frangrances. This is my favorite scent, so far.

My new friend, the frogginqueen, has started yet another ripple blanket! Go visit her blog and see the gorgeous colors!

Sunset

I don't have a lot going on today. I crocheted a little more on my Larger than Life squares, went and visited my BIL in ICU (he had a tumor removed from his brain, but seems to be recovering well!) and cleaned house, did laundry... all the things I had put off last week to do on the weekend. I will leave you with a pretty picture to end the weekend with.

Saturday, Cleaning Day

Today I think I might start working on cleaning out closets. I know, I know, I said I was gonna crochet, and I probably will later. DH is snoozing peacefully with his ever faithful "Wienerdor Retriever" Asia, who is on high alert and on guard for the two cats from the "Evil Empire":

Auntie Mo & Auntie Ho, better known as Homme (we pronounce it Homey), and Hobie Cat and who are not to be confused with Auntie Grim (my DD, below, with my grandson X, better known as Spida-Man).

Confused yet? And, have you figured out we like nick-names around here?

Anyway, I'm off to clean the closets. See ya later!

TGIF

Ahhh, Friday. Here's a view I never get tired of in my own back yard. Looks relaxing, eh? Until you have to go mow it after all the rain....... *grin*

I haven't gotten much crocheting done the last day or so, but I am hoping to relax some this weekend and work on some of the projects I have going. I saw over at Bron's blog that she almost has her Larger than Life Bag done. I really like the different ideas for handles that she mentioned.

The Library contacted me and let me know that book #7 of the Dresden Files (see my last post) is in! Just another thing I plan to enjoy this weekend! Who knows, we might even take a boat ride.

Happy Friday!

And another one bites the dust...

Another book down.....I finished book #6 in Jim Butcher's book series, "The Dresden Files" last night, which by the way, was also a new t.v. series on the Sci-Fi channel this past season. I am waiting for the Library to call and tell me they have book #7 reserved just for me! (I read so much, we wouldn't have any money *literally* if I had to buy all my books!) I am also a member of The Paperback Swap, online.

I am also wanting to get started on a Larger than Life bag like everybody else .......... hey, do ya think I have too many projects going on?

NAH!

Speaking of Spida-Man....

I saw this pattern out at Crochet Pattern Central a couple of weeks ago, and thought my own little 6 year old "Spida-man" would love it! It is a round ripple "Spiderman Afghan". I may end up frogging this one, because I think the blue should be lighter colored. Anyway, I know "X" will love it no matter what color blue I choose.

Work has been a little rough this week, so I'm glad to be able to come home and let loose my frustrations on crocheting, instead of breaking some heads like I would REALLY like to do! *grin*

Have a good evening!

What I am working on

I am currently working on these: crocheting a pillow from Jan Eaton's book, 200 Ripple Stitch Patterns, based on pattern #16, Pink Ripple, and on also on this colorful granny ripple, pattern #190, Granny Chevrons. I am using Caron Simply Soft Brites on both, along with regular Caron Simply Soft for the granny ripple.
